Putting On My Big Girl Panties and Growing Up

I started a new term at Broadview University in August. I have officially hit the downward slope and know graduation will be here soon...this is the ONLY reason I have survived the last couple weeks!
Medical/Surgical I and Pharmacology II have been my classes this quarter. I have loved Med/Surg. I have hours and hours of homework but for the first time, I feel like I am learning and becoming a nurse. I have learned so much information...unlike Pharmacology II.
Pharmacology has been ridiculous. I was so excited to find out my professor would be an anaesthesiologist. Oh was I wrong!! I have never been this disappointed from a class and professor. I don't want to explain everything he did wrong because I have already did that in a letter I submitted to the Dean of Students and the man who hires in charge of faculty. I met with them today to discuss my concerns. Yes...it is that bad!! I can honestly say I have not learned one thing from this instructor and feel he doesn't deserve my tuition money. My meeting was at 9 am...little did I know I would be in there for over a hour! I did so well talking to these two grown ups about the unfair situation my cohort and I have been dealt, why we feel this way, and what needs to be done to correct this horrible situation. My proposal was to get full tuition back for this class, be able to audit next quarter for free, and my graduation date would be the same. 40 minutes in my big girl panties was enough...so I changed to a diaper and started crying. I completely lost it. All my frustration finally just exploded. They just told me I wasn't going to get a refund. I couldn't believe the expect me to go into debt for a mistake they made. I am all for going into debt for my education, but that involves learning. By the end I got them to work on getting us 4 remediation classes 3 hours each with a new professor and making sure they fit into our schedule. I know it isn't the best. But like I said...I am fine going into debt for my education. At least I take comfort knowing they will be having to pay for another instructor for 12 hours out of their pocket. I am going to make sure they follow through or I am getting a lawyer...Bryan... :) jk.
Has this experience sucked?? Yes!! But I have learned a lot about standing up for myself. I didn't hold back in that room. I wasn't afraid to tell them they made a mistake by hiring this professor and they failed us as students. This is their responsibility to fix. By the end of the meeting...I felt like my body hadn't stopped for weeks. But at the same time...a sense of relief and gratification. Everyone else in my cohort has had their parents calling in to complain and try to make changes. This makes perfectly good sense because their parents are helping pay for them to get through this program. Although Dad and Mom have helped me, I have taken full responsibility for my education and took out a student loan. I knew this problem was mine to address and I did. I didn't allow this school to take advantage of me and my education. This is a business deal and they need to hold up their end of the deal. I learned a lot about myself through this experience.
...Katie, Diana, Me, Rachel, Whitney, and Mary...
This was a lunch get away when our Pharmacology professor failed to show up for class...he was sick.
Something fun!!
I have learned how to do IVs and on top of that...I have actually inserted an IV in a patient. First poke...and BAM...back flash!! Yay! Of course the attaching of the IV catheter to the IV might have gotten a little bloody....I was proud of it.
Of course, I practiced on Ryan (cousin) the night before and failed...and failed...and failed. So first thing at my clinical, I had the opportunity to practice on my fellow students...
...and they on me!

This only shows two pokes...they were the ones that wouldn't stop bleeding. There was an additional 5 pokes. If I was ever afraid of needles...I'm not anymore.

To add to my excellent day...I found out my grand ol' nursing program is now moving to DOWN TOWN SALT LIKE CITY!! AH! I am no longer 35 minutes from school but 1 hr. 15 minutes without traffic!! this takes me back to the first picture with the students throwing their caps in the year...that will be my in June! And I will finally be a Nurse...something I have dreamed about and am working hard to be.
