"You remind me of my old locomotive, Isabella"

My last clinical experience at a geriatrics unit is next Wednesday...and it is definitely bitter-sweet.
This is Margarete and I love her. I try to request her as my nurse to shadow as much as I can. She is so sweet and patient with us. She really tries to treat us how to be a great nurse, not just technically.

...Some Stories to Remember...

"You remind me of my old locomotive, Isabella"

I was doing a neurological assessment on this male patient who fell the day before. He loves to flirt with the nurses, but his pick up lines beat all of them...

Patient: You remind me of my old locomotive, Isabella

Me: I remind you of a car! :)

Margarete (Nurse): A locomotive is a train

Me: I remind you of a train! Why?

Patient: All women are like trains. If you gas them and treat them well...they will take you up that long hill. but if you don't gas them...you will be hiking that hill on foot.

Me: Oh...

Patient: I have two names for my locomotive...Isabella when I like her. And...well...the next name involves a lot of cuss words.

Diva to the End

Margarete went to give some medications to this patient. She doesn't have us do it because she could be a difficult patient. Today I stood in the doorway and watched her administer the drugs to her. First impression...She is wearing a headband with jewels, fancy clothes, and has this old antique floral mirror on her dresser. Margarete goes to give her the meds and this is her reaction..."You trying to give me dope!" haha I tried so hard not to lose it it. Thank you Miss Diva.

"I don't think I am interested"'

So I went to administer eye drops to this female patient and this is how our conversation went:

Patient: Have you ever been attacked by a patient

Me: Um...I haven't been a student nurse long enough

Patient: I use to be a medical technician at a veteran place. And these old dirty guys would try and grab my boobs.

Me: (As I am going to administer the drop) Well...Don't get any ideas. Don't touch my boobs.

Patient: (Laughing and then...) I don't think I am interested. (Laughing)

Me: haha

Ouch...I think. I didn't know how to take that last comment...jk. It was a funny experience.

Even though I still despise 5AM and the smell...I have really enjoyed my experience.

I am so grateful to have this man as my father. I know he puts his heart and soul into his family and would give anything to make their lives better. He has helped me more than I can explain. I love calling him to ask him the most random questions at work...which secretly he loves. He is always there to give great advice and help me when I need some encouragement. He is the first to check my blog, even if he doesn't comment...so...
